Zooming Self Binding Blanket class July 30, 2020 Before the class, please cut your fabric. Here is a link to a video created by Teresa Coates of Shannon Fabrics. If you have trouble accessing this video %2149650&parId=6E5865808996A4A8%2149648&o=OneUp , here are written instructions. For the Embrace , you will cut it 34 inches by 34 inches (square). Embrace is a double gauze (2 pieces melded together) and is prewashed to minimize shrinkage. Pro tip: starch the heck out of the gauze before working with it. It will help maintain its shape. Cut the Embrace along the woven lines. Each line is an inch. For the Cuddle fabric, your will cut it 40 inches by 40 inches (square). The easiest way to do this is on the back side, draw lines where you want to cut (40” square). I recommend cutting off the selvage for this project. Depending on the pile you might want to use different tools. If the pile is short (i.e., Cuddle 3), use a rotary cutter. If the pile is long (i.e., Llama), use a box cutter. It sounds weird, but it works like a charm, plus you have much less cuddle dust. If the pile is longer, you might also try a chenille rotary cutter. With long pile (cutting from the back), you just want to get under the “skin” and not cut into the fur. Sometimes with long pile you can also use sharp pointed scissors and just get under the skin (love my Karen Kay Buckley Perfect Scissors). Once the cuddle is cut, shake out the cuddle dust (outside). Then, toss the cuddle in a dryer with a wet washcloth. Make sure the dryer is set on no or very low heat for no more than 10 minutes. Many of the types of cuddle are heat embossed and you will lose the pattern if you use anything more than low heat. Never use a fabric softener/dryer sheet on cuddle. It coats the fur and makes it less soft! I know this all sounds scary. If you need me to talk you through it or have further questions, feel free to email at, or call me at 406-539-2056. I’d rather talk you through it, or we can do a mini zoom to help you cut it. For the zoom day class: Have your machine and supplies at the ready and set up your laptop, tablet or phone so I can see you sew and you can see me. I will be logged in on two devices, one for closeups and one for general talking and show and tell. Supplies needed: Embrace piece cut 34 inches square Cuddle piece cut 40 inches square Sewing machine set up with 90/14 stretch needle, walking foot and polyester thread to match the cuddle piece Long pins with big head (clover flower head pins work great) Ruler with 45 degree angle Stiletto—really help on longer pile Cuddle Scissors Looking forward to seeing you (virtually)!
