FUN WITH CHENILLE

See note at bottom about what to do before class.

Materials:

  •  4 fabric panels or 4 pattern repeats of fabric - Fabric panels should have a larger scale/print pattern for the design to show when chenilled.
  •  Fusible fleece either Pellon 987F, or 973F, 2" larger than panel on all sides
  •  Fabric backing - 2" larger than panel on all sides
  •  Thread to blend with panel top and backing
  •  "Best Press" spray starch or other starch
Tools:
  • Basic sewing tools
  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing straight pins
  • Quilting curved safety pins
  • Scissors
  • Chenille cutter
  • Erasable or water soluble marking pencil/pen
  • Quilting ruler (6 x 24")
  • Walking foot, adjustable edging/quilting guide helpful but not necessary
  • Machine quilting needles
Before class do the following

1.  Spray each panel with spray starch and press.  Do the same with the backing.

2.  Cut 3 panels so they measure approximately the same, trying to conserve as much perimeter fabric as possible.  You are trying to center the design on each panel having the same edging measurements around the main design.  Do not trim the 4th panel.

3.  Trim backing fabric and fusible fleece about 2" larger then the untrimmed panel on all sides.  Press fusible fleece to the wrong side of the backing fabric using manufacturer's directions.
