Beginning Quilting Class

Come join us to make a beautiful table runner and learn the basics of quilting step by step! 

Our goal is to learn quilting basics and proper sewing techniques through the completion of a Rail Fence table runner project.  We will begin with the very basics from fabric selection to cutting and progress through final stages of quilting and binding.  
 
You will need to bring a sewing machine in good working order, accessories for your machine, and your manual. You need to know how to operate your machine before class.

The following supplies should be purchased before class (if you don't already have them).  If you are buying any of the following from Silver Thimble, make sure to mention that you are taking this class as you will receive a 15% discount on all supplies & materials required for the class.

* 45mm Rotary Cutter with a new blade
* 6 1/2" x 24 1/2" quilt ruler
* 18" x 24" (or larger) cutting mat
* Scissors for cutting threads
* Straight Pins and pin cushion
* Seam Ripper
* 6" square ruler (or larger if that is what you own)
* 80/12 Universal Machine Needles

Optional:
* Wonder (binding) clips
* 1/4" seam foot for your machine
* Walking foot or dual drive foot for your machine (highly recommended if you plan to pursue quilting)
* Small classroom iron with an iron surface

During our first class we will discuss fabric selection and choose fabrics for the project (again, you will receive a 15% discount on all materials needed). The pattern is included in the class fee. It would be helpful to come into the store before class to look at the project sample and identify fabrics that are of interest to you.  If there is interest in kits of the fabrics used in the class sample, we will have those available.
